The Town of Manchester, CT owns and operates a Transfer Station for the benefit of Manchester Residents. There are many acceptable items that can be disposed of at the Transfer Station by residents. However, there are some materials that cannot be accepted. Therefore, please be sure to review the information and regulations on this web page. The Transfer Station has been issued an operating permit by the State of Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. Manchester Residents Needing to Use the Transfer Station
Transfer Station Rules and Regulations of Operation
For Manchester Residents needing to dispose of eligible items at the Transfer Station, all residential users of the must either:
1) Purchase a yearly Transfer Station Permit if eligible to do so*
2) Pay for each load that is brought in
The Fees are as follows:
- Annual Transfer Station Permit Fee (Valid July 1 through June 30) - $ 20.00 per vehicle

- Per Pick-up Truck/ or Trailer Fee - $ 4.00 per car load
There is NO CHARGE to deliver any materail/item classified as a Recyclable to the Transfer Station by a Manchester resident. Items deemed as recyclable currently include: single-stream recyclable materials (bottles/papers/cans/etc.), leaves/grass clippings/bagged yard waste, scrap metal, appliances, motor oil, antifreeze, lead acid batteries, electronics, mattresses/box springs, clothing & textiles, and cardboard. We add new recyclable materials whenever a new opportunity presents itself, or on rare occassion, may have to remove a material, so this list may change at any time without prior notice.
As of October 1, 2016, the Transfer Station is no longer accepting any Asbestos or Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM). Town residents may be able to bring Asbestos and ACM to a CREOC household hazardous waste collection event. Residents must call 860-647-5279 in advance of disposal at an HHW event to for authorization to deliver any ACM. The ACM must be wet down, double bagged and sealed with a heavy duty garbage bag, and no more than 60 pounds of material ACM can be delivered at an HHW collection event.
The Transfer Station is closed on the six holidays listed below. When any of these holidays fall on a Saturday, the Landfill will be closed that day, and open the preceding Friday. When any of these holidays fall on a Sunday, the Landfill will be closed on the Monday immediately after the Sunday holiday.

There is no curbside refuse collection on these holidays when they fall on or are recognized on a weekday. Collection during these holiday weeks is delayed one day on and after the day that the holiday is celebrated. Again, when the holiday falls on a Sunday, collection we be delayed on the next Monday for the entire week following said holiday.
The facility is open on a normal schedule on all other holidays.

Curbside Collection as an Alternative Disposal Method
Residents that are served by the Town's curbside collection program may dispose of many bulky items through a call-in scheduling system as described below.
